Hello. My name is Kim Hurter (formerly Kim Sison). You killed my father, prepare to die. I am an illustrator, production designer and maker of other creative crap.
My creative tendencies began at a very early age when I was living in Manila, Philippines during the rolling-blackout era of the late ’80s and early ’90s. To pass the time, I drew non-sensical storyboards on scrap pieces of paper. Most of the evidence had been destroyed by me directly after completion– some because they were too scandalous for a four-year old girl to come up with, most because I was simply too shy to share them with the rest of the world.
The storyboard doodles led to a dream of making movies. I attended Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts where I obtained a fancy-pants BFA degree in Film Studies. While in school, I mastered the art of creating practical gore effects and building makeshift sets on a budget. Today, I work freelance on film sets, gaining more experience in the art department with hopes to one day become a successful Production Designer. Since I wanted to extend my creativity beyond the walls of a soundstage, I continued to explore different art ventures on my own. I actively became involved in different projects from traditional visual arts, to digital illustration, to printmaking, to customizing vinyl toys, and even knitting. From all my creative misadventures, Pretty Poopie was born.
Pretty Poopie began as a little art blog back in 2008. It was designed to help maintain the flow of my creative mojo after graduating from film school. With every doodle, knit and sculpt, Pretty Poopie evolved to become my “creatimajigger” persona. Pretty Poopie features most of my creative ventures to date, from erotic art, to vinyl customs, to hand-knitted hickey hiders. Today, I still continue to chronicle my artistic misadventures through blogging.
Where did the name Pretty Poopie come from? Pretty Poopie stemmed from a “nothing fight” that happened earlier in my relationship with my husband. As a rebuttal to my argument, he called me “Poopie” and as cheesy and clichéd as the nickname may be, it just stuck. Pretty Poopie also best describes my work: sometimes cute, sometimes dirty, but always playful and childish at heart.
I currently reside in a studio loft in Toronto, Canada with my husband Alex and our four cats. When I am not busy getting my hands dirty in art projects, I’m usually found watching re-runs of “The Simpsons”, eating sushi, finding vintage porn in used bookstores and shadow casting movies.
